The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Infrastructure is currently seeking a Deputy Director for the Design Unit - Section 3 - Consultant Design.

Reporting to the Director, the selected candidate will assist in managing the design program for multiple capital infrastructure projects, including sewers, water mains, roadways, plazas, and green-infrastructure features. The Deputy Director will develop and maintain standard design specifications, standard drawings, and design guidelines for infrastructure projects to ensure consistency and quality across all designs.

The Deputy Director will supervise Engineers-in-Charge, engineers, and technical staff involved in both in-house and consultant design work. Responsibilities include reviewing design submissions for technical accuracy and compliance with DDC, DOT and DEP standards; overseeing consultant design assignments; coordinating interdisciplinary reviews; resolving design-related issues during project development; and ensuring that projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with agency objectives and allowable IFA rates.

In addition, the selected candidate will represent the Design Unit at meetings with utility companies and City, State, and Federal agencies; coordinate with sponsor agencies, regulatory entities, and private utilities throughout all stages of project development; and provide technical guidance and training to design staff to support professional development and quality assurance.

The Deputy Director will also assist the Director in implementing the Design Group’s mission, contribute to the continuous improvement of design procedures and tools, and participate in initiatives that promote sustainability, resilience, and constructability within DDC’s infrastructure program.

ADM ENGINEER (NON MGRL) - 1001A


Minimum Qualifications

1. A valid New York State License as a Professional Engineer.

2. Six (6) years of full-time satisfactory experience in chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, or plan examining work, at least two (2) years of which must have been in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity.


Preferred Skills

Please note the following preferred skills for this position: 1. Minimum of 2–4 years of strong supervisory, administrative, and management experience, particularly in the design area. 2. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills in English. 3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD 4. Knowledge relevant to infrastructure work (i.e., roadway, sewer, and/or water main) 5. Familiarity with NYC DOT, NYS DOT, NYC DEP specifications, MUTCD, and AASHTO standards 6. Comprehensive understanding of the NYC infrastructure system and current engineering practices 7. Proficiency in Primavera P6 scheduling and Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) credential (preferred). 8. Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) accreditation. (Preferred) 9. Valid driver's license (Required) 10. Personal vehicle (Optional)
