The mission of the Natural Resources Group (NRG) within the Division of Environment and Planning is to protect, restore, expand, and manage New York City’s natural spaces and green infrastructure to maximize their ecological and social benefits for all New Yorkers. The Division is responsible for planning, citywide urban forestry, and ecological and horticulture initiatives. The Greenbelt Native Plant Center (GNPC) is the Division’s native plant material center and seed bank. Programs provide live plants, develop seed products and bank genetically appropriate seed to meet city and agency needs.

Major Responsibilities
- Under direction of the GNPC Director, with wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative, coordinate closely with the Nursery leadership team to ensure the smooth day-to-day operations of the 12-acre site and its 4 programmatic areas.
- Oversee the operation of the GNPC office, including supervision of administrative staff and issues relating to personnel, timekeeping and purchasing. Oversee bookkeeping and reporting related to plant and seed production; maintain nursery budgets. Working with other managers, plan annual budgets and purchases and initiate new spending requests.
- Assist director in leading projects to drive the effort to improve, streamline and clarify processes and roles through development of standard operating procedures (SOP)s and workflow charts.
- Work as a liaison between GNPC and IT/ Analytics departments to help troubleshoot technical issues at the facility and improve and maintain data collection and analysis for our inventory and work related databases.
- Interface with E&P staff on reports, work plans, goals, and other documentation to coordinate and continually integrate GNPC operations into the greater division.
- Assist in development of requests for staffing needs, new needs requests and scopes of work for future capital improvement requests.
- When needed, provide support to the Nursery Manager to facilitate outreach and interface with the Staten Island Borough Shops and with Citywide Technical Services to make emergency and scheduled repairs and facility improvements.
- As needed, represent GNPC at relevant meetings, public forums, and conferences; report to Director and coordinate responses and follow up.
- Help drive the GNPC mission of collaborative, science-based restoration through literature review, exploration of grant opportunities, assisting with writing proposals, and attending appropriate meetings and site visits. Coordinate the preparation and oversight of any contracts or grants that are awarded.
- Drive the development of GNPC’s volunteer and intern program. Review new requests for collaboration and services. Coordinate GNPC volunteer, CSC member and intern educational opportunities and tours.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

1. Excellent administrative, organizational and communication skills. 2. Strong Analytical and statistical experience. 3. Ability to maintain databases and generate metrics and performance reports. 4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, familiarity with GIS and SQL.

Residency Requirement

Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam, or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
