New York City’s Mayor’s Public Engagement Unit (PEU) is the first of its kind in the United States. We seek to have an impact by proactively reaching individual residents and helping them access services for which they are eligible. We use innovative public awareness and grassroots organizing techniques; and assign teams of experienced outreach specialists to help residents find and receive resources available with a particular focus on vulnerable, low-income residents. Complemented by building broad awareness campaigns, the program has built a strong model that has been applied to a variety of unique challenges enabling governments to change the way in which their constituents receive service.
The PEU-IT Team is responsible for all aspects of technology for the unit. This includes end-user desktop support, VOIP, remote desktop, messaging, email, file, web, and database servers, and mobile devices. PEU-IT collaborates with other city agencies to implement and secure tools/applications for use by multiple agencies. PEU-IT also partners with other teams within PEU to develop tools and applications that streamline processes and increase productivity.
The Mayor’s Public Engagement (PEU) seeks one (1) full-time Telecommunications Associate Data III to function as a Deputy Director of Information Technology, reporting directly to the Senior Director of Information Technology. The successful candidate will provide leadership, project management, and technical assistance, and will assist with the management and oversight of the PEU-IT Team. The role involves extensive program and operations management experience, building and maintaining direct client and partner relationships, and supervisory skills. In addition, the Deputy Director will work closely with the units Employee Management, Operations, EngageNYC, and Data teams, on all information technology needs. The position will work closely with various HRA/ITS and OTI teams to support the needs of the unit.
The Deputy Director of Information Technology will:
Provide leadership to a team of desktop support technicians tasked with maintaining the overall
effectiveness and efficiency of IT systems and operations.
Serve as process leader in the development and maintenance of processes and procedures for
standard operating procedures and overall quality management.
Work with PEU-IT staff to prepare timely and accurate programmatic reports to the Senior Director
of IT as required.
Serve as Project Director on various large complex projects when needed
Work in collaboration with the Data Analytics and Engage NYC Teams on the technical requirements
and needs of the PEU Outreach Programmatic Teams
Collaborate with the Administration Operations, Employee Management, and Programmatic
teams on the on-boarding and off-boarding of staff
Manage and assign support tickets using the Jira and or Service Now system
Train, develop, and appraise staff effectively including leading a team committed to excellent
customer service.
Assist in developing and monitoring metrics related to IT service levels
Assist in forecasting necessary technology equipment purchases and upgrades necessary
to support the growth of the unit.
Demonstrate an understanding of business strategy and objectives and recommends
changes and improvements in the current technology.
Lifting of computers and computer-related equipment.
Other duties and responsibilities as required.

Hours/Schedule:
Monday - Friday 9:00am – 5:00pm
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in data telecommunications/ networking or in a pertinent scientific, technical, electronic or related area and one year of satisfactory full-time experience in the performance of analytical, planning, operational, technical, and/or administrative duties in a data telecommunications or closely-related electronics planning, electronics management, and/or electronics service environment; or
2. An associate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 12 semester credits in data telecommunications/ networking or in a pertinent scientific, technical, electronic or related area and two years of experience as described in "1" above; or
3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and three years of experience as described in "1" above; or
4. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2" or "3" above. A college education may be substituted for experience on the basis of six months of experience as described in "1" above for each 30 semester credits of undergraduate college education including or supplemented by 6 semester credits in data telecommunications/networking or in a pertinent scientific, technical, electronic or related area for a maximum of two years. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and at least one year of the experience as described in "1" above.
Special Note - Additional Requirements for Assignment Level IV
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level IV individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, at least two additional years of full-time experience as follows: 1) As a Telecommunications Associate (Data)-Assignment Levels I, II, and III working for the City of New York; or
2) Performing analytical, planning, operational, technical, and/or administrative duties in a data telecommunications, electronics planning, electronics management, and/or electronics service environment, one year of which must have been specialized work in a consultative or supervisory capacity.
Minimum 5 years – City of New York technical experience working closely with HRA/ITS, OTI, Mayor’s Office of Technology, and other city agencies. Minimum 5 years – IT Service Desk functions and operations experience Minimum 5 years – IT Management Experience Minimum 4 years - Project Management Experience Minimum 5 years - Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP and LAN/WAN Proficient understanding and knowledge of the City of New York Procurement Process Must be proficient with Microsoft Suite of products including, Word, Excel, Access, Visio, and E-mail business software Must be proficient with the Jira Service Desk Must be proficient with Snipe-IT Asset Management System Minimum 3 years - Google Workspace experience Strong written and verbal communication Strong customer service experience and skills courteous telephone manner Must demonstrate a good attitude and ability to work as a member of a Team and have outstanding leadership skills. self-motivation and the ability to work effectively under minimal supervision. Must be able to multitask efficiently, work in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects and have strong attention to detail. Ability to perform under high levels of stress.
