Major Responsibilities
- Under general direction of the Director of Health and Safety, with wide latitude for independent initiatives and judgment, perform difficult and responsible work in coordinating the Agency’s health and safety programs.
- Regularly visit Parks facilities and monitor workspace inspections.
- Respond to employee complaints and worksite safety concerns.
- Assist city, state and federal agencies in conducting inspections and address any citations issued for safety violations.
- Conduct hazard assessments for various Parks titles, maintain exposure control plans, and create and update training manuals to comply with ever changing legal mandates.
- Attend regular meetings between Parks and union health and safety committee representatives.
- Serve as project manager for various Agency contracts including Hepatitis B vaccinations and waste disposal.
- Provide training to staff in various health and safety topics and health and safety programs such as Hearing Conservation, Bloodborne Pathogen, Confined Spaces, and the Respiratory Protection Program.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

1. Experience with Department of Buildings, Fire Department and Department of Labor codes and regulations. 2. Experience with OSHA regulations and OSHA training. 3. Familiar with health and safety regulations and union, Public Employee Safety and Health (PESH) inspection protocols. 4. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. 5. Strong administrative skills. 6. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. 7. Valid New York State driver license.

Residency Requirement

Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
