Job Description

Central Communications is a twenty-four hour, seven-day a week operation which serves as the primary receiving station for incidents occurring on NYC Parks properties throughout the City of New York. The division is responsible for the monitoring of the NYC Parks talkgroups on the City-wide Radio Network, sending out day-to-day operational notifications, as well as aiding NYC Parks field personnel.
Major Responsibilities
- Under general direction, with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, perform very responsible work supervising the Agency's 24-hour, 7 days a week communication center.
- Assist the Director in overall supervision and maintenance of Central Communications.
- Oversee and/or assist with scheduling of around-the-clock operations including tour supervision. Ensure proper staffing levels are maintained on tours.
- Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate staff.
- Serve as a liaison with other city agencies including, but not limited to, New York City Emergency Management (NYCEM), New York Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI), and the New York City Police Department (NYPD).
- Coordinate communications at major special events via a mobile command center.
- Oversee budget/purchasing, track funds and work with vendors providing contractual services.
- Attend meetings, prepare reports and research and submit proposals for technological advances in radio communications, alarm systems and computer software.

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
1. Ability to qualify for Peace Officer Status (U.S. citizen, at least 21 years of age, no criminal record). 2. Two years of experience as an Associate Urban Park Ranger (AUPR) or high-level supervisory experience in NYC Parks operations. 3. Strong leadership skills and ability to make informed decisions promptly. 4. Excellent oral and written communications skills. 5. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. 6. Knowledge of 311 Dynamics and eJustice. 7. Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays. 8. A valid New York State driver license.
Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
