- The Workers’ Compensation Deputy Director of Administration assists the Workers’ Compensation Director of Administration in the supervision and oversight of all aspects of the Division’s claims operation.
- Under direction, with very wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgment, the Deputy Director makes recommendations in the formulation and implementation of policy to ensure compliance with the Workers’ Compensation Law and its associated rules, regulations, and guidelines.
- The position includes, but is not limited to, the training and evaluation of non-legal staff, the assignment and review of workflow, directing and advising the payment of hospital, surgical, and medical charges involving highly complex issues of causal relationship at applicable fee schedule rates, and managing the various claims administration units of the Workers’ Compensation Division (Case Management Units, Medical Unit, Indexing Unit, Awards Unit, along with clerical and support staff).
- Assists in establishing best practices in novel and emerging State and Federal initiatives, such as e-Billing, PAR Requests, and MSP ORM compliance.
- The Workers Compensation Deputy Director of Administration also identifies cases to be resolved in arbitration proceedings at the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board, directs the preparation of cases for presentation in arbitration, and, when appropriate, authorizes/participates in the negotiation of settlements.
- In very unusual or highly complex cases, representing the City at such arbitrations may be required. The Deputy Director is responsible for the evaluation and analysis of data regarding the success of various types of challenges to submitted charges for medical care.
- In the event of the Workers’ Compensation Director of Administration’s absence, the Deputy Director assumes the role and responsibilities of the Director.

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory, responsible, full-time experience in workers' compensation, insurance, or a related field, at least 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity or supervising personnel performing in the areas of workers' compensation, insurance or a related field; or
2. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. However, all candidates must have at least 18 months of experience in a supervisory, administrative, managerial or executive capacity as described in "1" above.
