The Department of Design and Construction, Division of Public Buildings, Architecture and Engineering Unit, seeks a Deputy Director of Electrical Engineering. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Deputy shall have both technical and administrative responsibilities, shall supervise staff, provide senior guidance, leadership, and mentorship to ensure all staff develop the professional and technical skills and responsibilities necessary to perform their jobs successfully, complete their assignments, and achieve their professional goals.
The Deputy shall participate in A&E senior staff activities including strategic planning, portfolio management, professional development, training, new initiatives, and pilot programs to enhance the relevance, value, and quality of the Engineering unit. The Deputy shall participate in scope development, existing conditions and forensic analysis, the review of design and documents prepared by consultants, and the preparation and/or review of documents for in-house design projects.
The Deputy shall perform workflow tracking and monitoring; coordinate the work of multi-disciplinary teams to ensure compliance with project schedules, milestones, and deadlines. The Deputy Director must be thoroughly knowledgeable of engineering principles, industry best practices, building codes, project delivery methodologies, and latest technologies and innovations in the field, and shall interface with clients, consultants, contractors, project managers, and other technical staff.
1. A valid New York State License as a Professional Engineer.
2. Six (6) years of full-time satisfactory experience in chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, or plan examining work, at least two (2) years of which must have been in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity.
Candidates must have managerial experience and excellent interpersonal, written, and oral skills. This position requires extensive experience with multi-discipline design construction contracts, issues, documents the ability to analyze projects and contractual situations. Must have current and up-to-date knowledge of the operations, design, and construction of diverse building types a thorough understanding of current engineering design principles and practices demonstrated ability to develop project scope and build consensus, facilitate teamwork capability to manage diverse sponsor agencies and work groups. The ideal candidate should have experience in new construction and renovation work in the public sector, or in institutional and commercial buildings. Familiarity with sustainable design concepts, current NYC Energy Conservation Code, Building Codes, Energy Analysis for Building Code Compliance. Candidates should be proficient in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Microsoft Word and Excel.
