The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) keeps New York City healthy, safe, and clean by collecting, recycling, and disposing of waste, cleaning City streets and vacant lots, and clearing snow and ice. DSNY is the nation's largest municipal sanitation agency, with nearly 10,000 employees, 59 district garages, and a fleet of more than 5,000 trucks, cars, and other types of equipment. The Department clears litter, snow, and ice from approximately 6,500 miles of City streets and removes debris from vacant lots as well as abandoned vehicles from City streets.

Reporting to the Director of Agency & Building Containerization, DSNY seeks an experienced candidate to serve as Deputy Director of Agency & Building Containerization. Under general direction, with varying degrees of latitude for independent initiative, judgment, and decision making, the successful candidate will:
- Manage staff and direct their office and field work based on project deadlines and the needs of the Department.
- Develop and implement annual work plans for technical assistance, operations, and outreach programs relating to the Department's key initiatives around containerization, recycling, and waste management.
- Develop & manage relationships and work with key stakeholders involved in implementing DSNY’s programs.
- Coordinate technical assistance and outreach activities both externally, and within DSNY.
- Review educational, technical, and other outreach materials to ensure programmatic objectives are met.
- Provide oversight and support for all aspects of vendor management including drafting and reviewing contracts, budgets, invoices, proposals, and other related items.
- Manage vendors to ensure completion of tasks and projects, along with the documentation of tasks assigned to those vendors.
- Assists in implementing, maintaining, and improving agency programs through a variety of outreach methods, including site visits, trainings, events, meetings, clerical work, and others as assigned by supervisor.
- Serve as an agency representative with community, civic, and business organizations, city agency and institutions, or other entities.
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
- Personally conduct outreach to the public.
- May be required to operate a department vehicle when necessary

Minimum Qualifications

1. A master's degree from an accredited college in economics, finance, accounting, business or public administration, human resources management, management science, operations research, organizational behavior, industrial psychology, statistics, personnel administration, labor relations, psychology, sociology, human resources development, political science, urban studies or a closely related field, and two years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in one or a combination of the following: working with the budget of a large public or private concern in budget administration, accounting, economic or financial administration, or fiscal or economic research; in management or methods analysis, operations research, organizational research or program evaluation; in personnel or public administration, recruitment, position classification, personnel relations, employee benefits, staff development, employment program planning/administration, labor market research, economic planning, social services program planning/evaluation, or fiscal management; or in a related area. 18 months of this experience must have been in an executive, managerial, administrative or supervisory capacity. Supervision must have included supervising staff performing professional work in the areas described above; or
2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of professional experience in the areas described in "1" above, including the 18 months of executive, managerial, administrative or supervisory experience, as described in "1" above.

- Strong communications skills ability to tailor complex messages to diverse audiences. - Strong administrative, organizational, interpersonal, writing, and data management skills. - Proficiency in use of word processing and data management applications including MS Word and Excel - Possession of a New York State Motor Vehicle Driver’s License.
