Job Description

- Under general direction, with wide latitude for independent initiative and decision making, assist the First Deputy Commissioner in developing and executing external engagement strategies to benefit agency objectives and goals related to city, state and federal elected officials, community boards and other City agencies.
- Support Borough Commissioners and key division staff in building and maintaining relationships with federal, state and local elected officials, community boards, and other key stakeholders.
- Assist in monitoring and drafting agency responses to correspondence, informational queries and related requests from city, state and federal elected officials, community boards, and other City agencies regarding agency matters.
- Manage the preparation of materials for the Commissioner, First Deputy Commissioner and other agency senior staff in advance of meeting with elected officials.
- Represent the agency at external meetings as needed.
- Work with Borough Commissioners and key division staff to prepare and submit detailed reports on all aspects of agency engagement with local elected officials.
- Provide additional strategic and administrative support for the First Deputy Commissioner’s Office as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

1. Comprehensive knowledge of New York City, state and federal government, especially the legislative process. 2. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to build and maintain partnerships. 3. Excellent writing, communication, organizational, presentation and analytical skills. 4. Master's degree in public administration or a related field. 5. Familiarity with all aspects of agency operations. 6. Proficiency in Microsoft Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Word. 7. Valid New York State driver license.

Residency Requirement

Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam, or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency is required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
