JOB SUMMARY:
The Bronx County District Attorney’s Office seeks an experienced, dynamic attorney to serve as Deputy Bureau Chief of the Community Justice Bureau (CJB). CJB’s mission is to provide meaningful alternatives to incarceration for eligible individuals, improve public safety, and promote fair outcomes through innovative programming and collaborative problem-solving.
The Deputy Bureau Chief will report directly to the Bureau Chief and play a key leadership role in managing staff, driving operational excellence, and strengthening partnerships. The ideal candidate is an experienced leader who can balance legal and courtroom acumen with the ability to mentor staff, streamline processes, and build a culture that aligns with DA Clark’s vision of justice with integrity.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Leadership & Supervision
o Directly supervise Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs) and designated supervisory staff.
o Provide coaching, performance feedback, and professional development to ensure high standards of work.
o Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and problem-solving.
o Create and provide trainings for BXDA ADAs about program dispositions.
o Advise leadership on program policy-related issues.

Case Oversight & Policy Implementation
o Oversee case conferencing and approve program dispositions.
o Ensure all felony cases are properly reviewed and vetted for program eligibility and advise on appropriate dispositions.
o Supervise compliance monitoring and resolve issues related to program participation.

Court & Stakeholder Engagement
o Serve as point of contact with judges, defense counsel, service providers, and partner agencies to facilitate alternative sentencing and problem-solving approaches.
o Represent the Office in external meetings, interagency committees, and community partnerships.

Program Development & Evaluation
o Collaborate with internal and external partners to enhance existing programs and develop new initiatives.
o Keep current with best practices, legal developments, and innovative approaches in community justice.
o Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on grant applications and award implementation.

Operational Responsibilities
o Assist in managing bureau operations, ensuring timely communication and effective case flow.
o Handle select cases and cover court as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

A Juris Doctorate degree and a minimum of 7 years in prosecution.

US Citizenship and New York State Residency are required.

Knowledge of substance abuse and mental illness issues

Knowledge of alternatives to incarceration programs and policies

Extensive knowledge of, and experience with, New York’s Penal Law and Criminal Procedure Law

Three years’ experience working with individuals with substance abuse, mental illness, and other social services including serving as a prosecutor, defense attorney, etc.

Excellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel

Excellent presentation and organizational skills

Strong business planning and forecasting skills.

Excellent people skills and demeanor.

Ability to exercise good judgment and strong ethics.

Ability to analytically solve issues or problems from inception through conclusion.
