DCAS Police is responsible for security at DCAS managed properties throughout the five boroughs as well as maintaining law and order, ensuring the protection of life and property through the enforcement of the New York State Penal Law and all applicable agency rules and regulations.

- DCAS Police staff conducts preliminary investigations of accidents, building rule violations, criminal complaints, security breaches, and thefts of both city and personal property.
- Develops and implements corrective and preventive measures.
- DCAS Police assists in operational and emergency planning in partnership with other DCAS Lines of Service and other emergency response agencies during emergency conditions.
- DCAS Police also manages and administers the contract guard agreement to ensure necessary staffing levels and compliance with the contract provisions of DCAS managed properties.
- DCAS Police provides screening of all deliveries, parcels, packages and mail delivered to DCAS facilities in the Civic Center area through the use of explosive canine detection and the use of x-ray scanning equipment.

The selected Special Officer(s) (Armed) candidates will fill the position within the LOS Administration/DCAS Police Unit. DCAS Police Officers are responsible for foot and motorized patrols that cover DCAS managed properties, public buildings and surrounding areas. They control ingress and egress points throughout the facilities, ensure proper employee identification, and play a critical role in emergency evacuations. These officers maintain order and protect the peace, and safeguard life and property against fire, vandalism, theft etc. Officers commonly discourage loitering, prevent criminal activity, trespassing, and prevent any violations of law or building rules and regulations. They are critical to our quick reaction security posture and when appropriate they will arrest and issue summons to law violators on premises and may be required to escort, transport, or arrange for transportation of persons in their custody to Police Precincts and can be called upon to testify in court on arrests. DCAS Police Officers also prepare incident reports, record building activity, secure and safeguard lost and found property, and maintain the Command Logbook. Finally, our DCAS Police Officers ensure that our contract security guards execute security operations in accordance to policy and procedures.


Minimum Qualifications

1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a state's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization; and
2. Individuals serving in this title are designated as Peace Officers by the New York State Criminal Procedure Law. Therefore, all candidates must be qualified to serve as Peace Officers. Incumbents must satisfy the training requirements established by the State of New York for Peace Officers and obtain certification. Once obtained, this certification must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
