The New York City Department of Design and Construction Technology and Innovation (T&I) Division, seeks a skilled Database Administrator (DBA) to join their team to manage their critical database systems. The primary responsibilities of the DBA will include designing, implementing, and maintaining complex database environments, including the installation, configuration, and upgrading of database software. Additionally, the DBA will be responsible for ensuring the security, integrity, and availability of the database, including disaster recovery planning and implementation. The DBA will also be required to monitor and optimize database performance, troubleshoot, resolve issues, and provide recommendations for improving efficiency and scalability. Collaboration with development teams to design, implement, and test database schemas, queries, and stored procedures will also be necessary. Other key responsibilities include managing database backups, maintenance plans, and replication, developing and implementing database policies, procedures, and standards, and providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior DBAs.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Installing and configuring database software, including setting up database instances, configuring server parameters, and establishing security settings.
- Designing and implementing efficient and scalable database structures, including tables, relationships, indexes, and constraints, based on business requirements.
- Monitoring database performance metrics, identifying bottlenecks, and optimizing query execution plans, indexes, and server configurations to enhance performance.
- Implementing and managing regular database backups, establishing backup and recovery strategies, and conducting restore operations in case of data loss or system failures.
- Implementing security measures to protect sensitive data, managing user access and permissions, and ensuring compliance with data privacy regulations.
- Identifying and resolving database-related issues, such as performance problems, data corruption, connectivity errors, or application integration challenges.
- Experience with ETL tools like SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) or similar platforms to extract, transform, and load data between different systems and databases. Knowledge of data integration best practices and techniques.
- Designing and maintaining data models for data warehousing and business intelligence purposes. Understanding dimensional modeling concepts, data mart creation, and ETL processes.
- Proficiency in SQL for writing complex queries, stored procedures, and functions. Ability to optimize queries for performance, identify inefficient code, and make appropriate adjustments.
- Experience in automating routine tasks and database administration activities using scripting languages like PowerShell, Python, or SQL scripting.


Minimum Qualifications

1. A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and 4 years of satisfactory full-time experience in IT automation and engineering related to the area(s) required by the particular position; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.


Preferred Skills

The ideal candidate should have expertise in database management systems like Microsoft SQL Server preferred. They must possess a strong understanding of database security, compliance regulations, and disaster recovery planning. The successful candidate will need to stay up to date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices and recommend changes or improvements as needed.
