The Teachers’ Retirement System of the City of New York (TRS) is a public pension fund that provides New York City educators with retirement, disability, and death benefits. TRS was established on August 1, 1917 and is one of the largest pension plan sponsors in the United States, with more than $106 billion in assets and over 215,000 active and inactive members, retirees and beneficiaries.
TRS' Quality Center of Excellence is looking for a self-motivated and detail-oriented professional senior DRT QA - SQL Server ETL Developer who can work independently to develop and test very complex data cleansing scripts, SSIS data migration/conversion packages, SSIS Data Bridging programs and SSRS reports in support of a multi-phase legacy system replacement effort.
The developer is expected to bring SQL Server development expertise and participate in design sessions with application engineers, ETL designers, data analysts and Quality Assurance resources. The developer will also be expected to perform advanced, in-depth analysis of database models, data integrity issues and programming requirements.
The selected candidate should be a highly motivated, member-focused professional who will provide prompt, efficient, and friendly services to TRS’ members on a wide range of inquiries. The candidate should be problem solving, managing multiple priorities, working with a high degree of independence and interacting collaboratively with users and Management. The candidate must possess a high degree of software testing expertise with demonstrated success in the quality assurance application delivery process.
ESSENTIAL/PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Perform manual data entry/data corrections at the directions of the Data Cleansing Quality Manager
* Assist the Data Cleansing Quality Manager in the development and implementation of procedures for manual data entry/data
* Correction initiatives as required
* Participate in the tracking, quality assurance and reporting
* Perform the manual data cleansing process including QA and UAT of the manual data issues. Ensure issues are successfully validated in production.
* Demonstrate a strong ability to use mathematical, research, phone, computer and writing skills
* Communicate effectively with IT staff and Data Cleansing Quality Manager
* Demonstrate the ability to work in a self-motivated, self-directed manner with the broad parameters agreed upon with the Manager
* Train associates performing manual data entries/corrections and checks their work for accuracy
* Perform application testing as required collaborating with QCOE and business test leads to create test plans, test scripts and ensure business functionality is operating as expected.
* Utilize BPM tools and techniques to prepare detailed end-to-end process models related to the delivery of TRS products and services as required.
* Analyze results in order to identify and address gaps between current/future state and present recommendations.
* Define exception process activities for resolution of exceptions to support the exception procedures; communicate and deliver complex data in comprehensible ways to gain buy-in and acceptance.
* Support the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions to support implementation of the target operating models as applicable.
* Support operational analysis regarding issues found in production to enable negotiation and definition of potential service-level requirements.
* Collaborate with appropriate service owners and other key stakeholder to define business services, associated Service Level
* Agreements (SLAs), Operational Level Agreements (OLAs) and any contracts to ensure that realistic Service Level Targets (SLTs) are agreed upon and that there is an organizational infrastructure to enable achievement of those SLTs.
* Develop SQL queries to test data migrations, bridges and validate data cleansing resolved issues.
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university including or supplemented by 12 credits in mathematics, statistics, accounting, and/or actuarial science and four years of satisfactory full-time experience implementing the provisions of a retirement plan involving the use of mathematical, statistical, actuarial or accounting computations, 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity or supervising professionals implementing the provisions of a retirement plan involving the use of mathematical, statistical, actuarial or accounting computations; or
2. An associate degree or 60 credits from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by 12 credits in mathematics, statistics, accounting and/or actuarial science and six years of satisfactory full-time experience as indicated in “1”; or
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have 60 credits from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by 12 credits in mathematics, statistics, accounting and/or actuarial science and the 18 months of experience in a supervisory, administrative, managerial or executive capacity as described in “1” above.
EXPIRIENCE: * Bachelor’s degree in the field of computer science or similar * A minimum of 8 years’ development experience with MS SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS is required. * Ability to collate and analyze defects, present the results using charts for root cause analysis and provide feedback to compare against defined parameters. * Experience in utilizing user acceptance testing methodologies * A minimum of five years of service related work experience in Pension System * Minimum of five years’ experience that demonstrates a solid, mature knowledge of the software certification process within the System Delivery Life Cycle methodology from requirements gathering to planning to testing to implementation. * Minimum of two years of project management experience KNOWLEDGE: * Design, Develop and Deploy SSIS Packages * Design complex ETL using loop containers and data transformation tasks * Write complex T-SQL queries and also able to do data cleansing writing the same * Provide expert technical feedback to functional spec designers / business analysts * Tuning T-SQL queries to improve performance * Develop complex program logic using T-SQL * Lead and make design decisions to create simple, elegant and re-usable software components as a part of larger enterprise application framework * Demonstrated skill in understanding relational table design and applying optimized indexes * Detailed knowledge of Data Modeling, both relational and dimensional * Strong grasp of ETL protocols * Strong analytical and data management skills * Exposure to Data Profiling Best Practices * Conduct extremely thorough Unit Testing that yields very low defect code * Develop reports in SQL Server Reporting Services * Experience in Data Modeling and Data Analysis in MS SQL Server 2012/2008 * Ensure accuracy & integrity of data & applications through analysis, coding, writing clear documentation & problem resolution * Analyze & translate functional specifications & change requests into technical specifications. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Experience with legacy data migrations is greatly preferred * Experience with public retirement systems is also preferred * Experience with DB2 legacy systems is a plus * Advanced analytical and problem-solving ability is required for this position SKILLS: * Ability to collate and analyze defects, present the results using charts for root cause analysis and provide feedback to compare against defined parameters.
