Job Description
NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for administering the tax revenue laws of the city fairly, efficiently, and transparently to instill public confidence and encourage compliance while providing exceptional customer service.
DOF’s Property Valuation and Tax Mapping is responsible for valuing more than one million properties in the city and overseeing assessments and valuations in a fair and equitable manner. The valuations enable the efficient and effective collection of property tax revenues for New York City.
Property is seeking a Summer Graduate Intern for the Data Analytics Unit, Reporting and Planning (PDARP). PDARP provides analytical support for executive initiatives including statistical summaries, designing reports based on extremely large datasets, property valuation analysis and assisting assessors in developing more analytical capabilities by providing tools that leverage technology.
Reporting to the Director of Property Analytics, the selected candidate’s duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Develop analytical reports and perform statistical analyses using SAS and other programming languages.
- Standardize and streamline reporting formats across projects through Python-based automation.
- Assist with designing, developing, and maintaining R scripts to perform spatial joins for GEOBIN and GEODIST projects using New York City Department of City Planning (DCP) data.
- Ensure data integrity and consistency between Vision and PTS systems.
- Assist with building and maintaining internal Power BI dashboards to support property valuation and analysis.
- Research and evaluate the use of machine learning techniques to identify data discrepancies within Vision.
- Create and maintain technical and process documentation.

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in an accredited college, university or law school.
- Proficiency in using SAS, Python, R or other programming languages. - Proficiency in using relational databases and extracting data using SQL. - Experience with data modeling techniques and working with large datasets. - Proficiency in ArcGIS, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI and Power Automate. - Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. - Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills.
