Since 1917, Teachers’ Retirement System of the City of New York (TRS) has been building better tomorrows for the educators of New York City. TRS serves over 215,000 members with a mission to provide them retirement, disability, and death benefit services.

The Surveys, Research & Analytics (SRA) team in Member Services currently analyzes member feedback in four areas of member contact: phone calls, walk-in center visits, virtual appointments, and member education classes. The SRA team administers surveys, analyzes responses and then interprets the results to provide insight to unit managers and department leadership.

Job Description

As a Data Analytics College Aide you will play a crucial role in supporting the department’s efforts to analyze and assess the effectiveness and efficiency of its operations. You will work to collect, organize and analyze large amounts of data from various sources to provide insights and recommendations that aid in decision-making and strategic planning.

Responsibilities

- Assist in collecting, organizing and analyzing large datasets using statistical methods and data visualization techniques.
- Collaborate with team members to identify trends, patterns and insights from data to support key strategic decisions.
- Utilize Tableau, Excel, and other analytical tools to enter, manipulate and clean data to conduct accurate and meaningful analysis.
- Assist in developing and maintaining dashboards and reports to track and monitor key performance indicators.
- Assist in the preparation and presentation of data findings to various stakeholders within TRS.
- Participate in cross-functional projects and contribute to the continuous improvement of data analytics processes and systems.


Minimum Qualifications

For Assignment Level I:
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.
For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.

SPECIAL NOTE
Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.


Preferred Skills

- Proficient with experience in data visualization tools such as Tableau a plus. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail. - Knowledge of statistical methods and data analysis techniques. - Ability to communicate complex data findings in a clear and concise manner. - High level of self-motivation and ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. - Interest in pension and retirement benefits is a plus. - Must be able to work independently or with small groups to get work/projects done

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
