SUMMARY:
The Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is the City government's chief financial agency. OMB's staff of analysts and experts assembles and oversees the Mayor’s expense and capital budgets, which fund the services and activities of more than 90 city agencies and entities.
Within OMB, the Information Systems Task Force supports the agency’s staff by providing the hardware and software necessary for budget preparation and analysis.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Data Analyst will work cross-functionally with business partners in building analytical models, data visualizations, and storytelling to identify data-driven opportunities. In addition, the data analyst will work on improving the agency’s NYC Open Data processes and become a domain expert in data governance.
The duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following activities:
Data Analytics & Reporting
- Perform data wrangling, data mining, and data modeling
- Design, build, and maintain ETL processes
- Create, maintain, and support business intelligence applications (mainly reports and data extracts), and Access databases
- Provide quality customer support to a diverse group of internal users
- Deliver results with accuracy and urgency during/after financial plan, and on multiple projects
Open Data & Compliance
- Coordinate to update and to maintain datasets on the City’s Open Data Portal
- Coordinate to respond inquiries and requests from public
- Manage open data datasets and related activities
- Identify, design, and publish new datasets for open data
- Coordinate to complete annual compliance report
- Monitor and improve open data’s KPIs
- Attend open data convention and other events.
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college.
DESIRED SKILLS: - Excellent analytical, quantitative, and technical skills/aptitude - Hands-on experience including, but is not limited to, Power BI, Microsoft Access, Excel, SQL queries, Crystal Reports, relational databases, and data modeling - Highly motivated self-starter, willingness to learn, and desire to succeed - Able to work independently or collaborate with a team - Strong work ethic, attention to detail, organizational skills, and adaptable - Willingness to learn new technologies - Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills - Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed - Experience with either Python, R is a plus.
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
