Job Description
The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) invests in a network of community-based organizations and programs to alleviate the effects of poverty and to provide opportunities for New Yorkers and communities to flourish. The Workforce Connect division manages a portfolio of programs that seek to expand opportunities for New York City’s young people through employment programs that help youth ages 14 to 24 gain work experience, acquire necessary work readiness skills and further their education. These programs serve over 100,000 youth annually and include offerings for youth in school and youth not currently in school or working. DYCD funds a network of community-based organizations to deliver youth workforce development programs across the City. Workforce Connect (a division of DYCD) is comprised of a portfolio of Youth and Adult Workforce Development programs including those that focus primarily on in-school youth such as the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) and Work, Learn and Grow (WLG;) as well as programs for Out-of-School Out-of-Work (OSOW) adults and young adults such as Advance & Earn and Train & Earn. These programs provide OSOW young adults aged 16-24 a career pathway through a continuum of services including academic instruction, GED test preparation, work readiness training, college and career exploration, paid work experience, advanced occupational training and industry credential attainment. DYCD’s newest workforce development initiative CRED NYC (Community Resources for Employment and Development), will offer participants ages 18-40, involved in the criminal justice system or impacted by community violence, work readiness and occupational training, internships, job placement support services such as mental health counseling and connections to social services and resources such as housing, life coaching, academic support, legal support, access to healthcare. The Workforce Connect division is currently seeking a skilled Data Analyst to join our Policy, Integration, and Operations team, providing essential support to the Senior Director on a daily basis. The Data Analyst will play a crucial part in the development and improvement of our youth job training programs through thorough data analysis, reporting, and visualization. Responsibilities will encompass maintaining, developing, and designing interactive dashboards, crafting ad-hoc reports to aid in program evaluation and decision-making, and assisting in data extraction, cleaning, and validation processes. Additionally, the Data Analyst will conduct in-depth analyses of workforce programs, synthesizing complex information into presentations and reports tailored for various audiences. Strong written and verbal communication skills are paramount for success in this role, as the Data Analyst will be required to effectively communicate intricate findings to diverse stakeholders.
Key Tasks:
- Data Management
- Learn and master the operation various data systems used to gather and report Workforce Connect data
- Work with DYCD’s Information Technology team as well as external vendors to troubleshoot issues, implement new items and changes and monitor data quality
- Assist in the extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data from various sources for analysis.
- Clean, validate, and reconcile data to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Implement data quality checks and processes to maintain data integrity. Program Planning and Analysis
- Inform Workforce Connect program goals and data collection strategies based on agency priorities
- Work on analytical projects aimed at enhancing workforce development programs for youth.
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement.
- Provide actionable recommendations based on findings to inform program strategy and decision-making. Ad Hoc Reporting
- Respond to ad hoc data requests from internal and external stakeholders.
- Generate reports and analyses to address specific inquiries or support program evaluation efforts.
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all reports produced. Dashboard Development
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements for interactive dashboards in Power BI.
- Design, develop, and maintain visually appealing and user-friendly dashboards to monitor program performance and outcomes.
- Ensure dashboards provide actionable insights for decision-making and program improvement.
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
- Bachelor's degree in Data Analysis, Statistics, Business Intelligence, Economics, Public Policy or a related field (or equivalent experience). - Experience with data tools such as Excel, R, Power BI, etc. - Experience with data visualization software, like Power BI or Tableau - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
