Job Description
The mission of the Bureau of Tuberculosis Control (BTBC) is to prevent the spread of tuberculosis (TB) and eliminate it as a public health problem in New York City. This cross-cutting role will support a range of non-clinical functions within the Office of Medical Affairs, with a focus on program support and data analysis. The selected candidate will help design and implement evaluations of programs and contribute to operational improvements across areas such as case management for drug-resistant TB, regulatory affairs, and the evaluation of newly arrived immigrants and refugees at risk for TB disease. The ideal candidate will be technically curious and motivated to use data to improve public health outcomes, while also being flexible enough to support a variety of programmatic tasks as needed.
This role is well suited for someone who has a foundational understanding of data analysis and a strong interest in learning about infectious disease control, public health regulations, and clinical workflows.
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
Respond to data requests from internal and external partners, including generating reports and summaries.
Analyze clinical and programmatic data from surveillance systems and electronic medical records.
Assist the Regulatory Affairs Unit in drafting Commissioner's Orders for patients requiring legal intervention, and help maintain related records and reports.
Support efforts to evaluate the impact of regulatory actions by contributing to protocol development and data tracking tools.
Collaborate with the Immigrant and Refugee Unit to streamline workflows and evaluate procedures related to TB screening for newly arrived immigrants.
Contribute to cross-functional projects within the Office of Medical Affairs, as needed, including process improvements and documentation support.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
Demonstrated interest in public health, especially infectious disease control, healthcare delivery, or program evaluation.
Experience or strong aptitude in working with data especially using Excel, R, Python, or similar tools.
Willingness to learn and apply data analysis, visualization, and interpretation skills to real-world public health challenges.
Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Flexibility to support both data-related and programmatic tasks, including coordination, documentation, and process improvement.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Comfort working in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with electronic health records, surveillance systems, or regulatory processes is a plus, but not required.
