JOB DESCRIPTION:
The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.
The Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) supports the Department by acquiring, distributing, installing and maintaining Local Area Networks, personal computers, mainframe computers, software, and data communications networks. ITSD also plans and coordinates the implementation of advanced technology.
1. Respond, log, investigate and resolve incidents related to applications installed on Training Attendance Certification Transcript TACTICS) and Daily Observation Report (DOR) servers.
2. Perform application vulnerability scans to detect potential application weaknesses and remediate them as soon as possible to prevent exploit attempts. 10%
3. Review application vulnerabilities and remediate them as per Service Level Agreement. 10%
4. Assist in the development of security policies for code scans thus improve code quality and help discover and remediate defects prior to production deployment. 10%
5. Monitor security logs/alerts and notify appropriate group/s. 10%
6. Perform analysis of log files from intrusion detection system to identify possible threats to network security. 10%
7. Collaborate with various teams to ensure best practices are followed prior to production software deployment as mandated by the Software Delivery Life Cycle.
8. Periodically participate in tabletop exercise activities and update incident response plan.
9. Perform hardware and software upgrade on servers as required and other duties and functions such as application support and maintaining the applications installed on TACTICS and DORS servers.
10. Development of new features to improve user experience, rework existing features based on user requests and provide support to resolve incidents.

A baccalaureate degree, from an accredited college including or supplemented by twenty-four (24) semester credits in cyber security, network security, computer science, computer programming, computer engineering, information technology, information science, information systems management, network administration, or a pertinent scientific, technical or related area; or
2. A four-year high school diploma or its equivalent approved by a State’s department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and three years of satisfactory experience in any of the areas described in “1” above; or
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” or “2”, above. College education may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience in “2” above on the basis that sixty (60) semester credits from an accredited college is equated to one year of experience. In addition, twenty-four (24) credits from an accredited college or graduate school in cyber security, network security, computer science, computer programming, computer engineering, information technology, information science, information systems management, network administration, or a pertinent scientific, technical or related area; or a certificate of at least 625 hours in computer programming from an accredited technical school (post high school), may be substituted for one year of experience.
