The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The Professional Standards Division, Quality Assurance Section is seeking candidates to fill the position of Crime Analyst Level II. The candidate's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-Research and analysis of highly sensitive and complex data regarding crime and criminal activity. Auditing Crime Complaints and ICAD assignments.
-Recognize and identify conditions, trends, and patterns in crime data.
-Create and utilize spreadsheets, complex databases, tables, charts, and graphics for analysis and distribution.
-Review complex data sets.
-Report to Executive Staff for briefings and conferences regarding crime statistics, patterns, and problems on a citywide level.
-May assist in training and supervising subordinate personnel.
-May serve as a liaison to various commands to facilitate the proper collection of data.
-Respond to telephone inquiries from operation commands to assist in proper crime reporting.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loan after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full time for a qualifying employer, such as a U.S. federal, state, local, or tribal government or not-for-profit organization. You may be able to consolidate a Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) and Federal Perkins Loan into a Direct Loan to qualify for PSLF.

In compliance with Federal Law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research or a closely related field; and one year of satisfactory full-time experience in the analysis and/or research of data related to crime, criminals, criminal intelligence, and/or other social sciences in a police, judicial, or other criminal justice setting; or
2. A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research or a closely related field; and a Master’s degree from an accredited college in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research or a closely related field.
SPECIAL NOTE:

To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, three additional years of full time qualifying experience as described in (1) above; or two years of full time qualifying experience as a Crime Analyst Assignment Level I.

SPECIAL NOTE:

To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, five additional years of full time qualifying experience as described in (1) above, or two years of full time qualifying experience as a Crime Analyst Assignment Level II.


Preferred Skills

Applicants interested in the position within the Professional Standards Division, Quality Assurance Section should have strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills as well as positive service and sick records. Knowledge of Microsoft Office in addition to other Department and commercial software products is required. Additional preferred skills include: - Knowledge of FBI crime classifications. - Knowledge of the Patrol Guide, Penal Law and NYPD Crime Reporting Systems Reference Guide. - Experience examining and compiling sensitive data regarding criminal activities and investigations. - Experience as a Precinct level Crime Analyst. - Experience utilizing spreadsheets and Department databases including Cognos. - Experience creating tables, charts, and graphics to perform analysis. - Experience writing Department reports. - Experience responding to phone inquiries regarding proper classification and jurisdiction of complaint reports.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
