The Division of Transportation Planning and Management (TP&M) is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets, supporting the larger goals of economic and social vitality for people living, working, and doing business in New York City. The Division's responsibilities include planning, street design, technical analysis, signs, transit development, freight mobility, markings, and ensuring the safety of motor vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and cyclists.

TPM seeks a candidate to oversee the creation and oversight of design and data related collateral, while supervising work assignments anchored in design, accessibility and user centric engagement for the Public Engagement Group/Street Ambassadors team; the Ambassadors provide critical outreach support for the Transportation Planning & Management Division. This unit supports Vision Zero safety initiatives cited in the Agency's Strategic Plan and NYC Streets Plan, and has been critical to the agency's public engagement strategy. This unit provides support for public input in the Street Improvement Project development process and supports the explicit goals of project-based outreach and public awareness; these are key to helping ensure smooth delivery of life-saving projects.

Duties for this position include designing and managing digital and print collateral for public engagement campaigns, developing and managing digital platforms in support of safety improvement projects and initiatives, overseeing data visualizations for final project deliverables, applying comprehensive accessibility standards to all project summaries, managing and developing UX/UI standards for the Projects and Initiatives website/portal, implementing new engagement strategies around the use of audio/visual and digital images, researching and developing new opportunities for broadening communication with the public at large, coordinating deployment logistics for digital capture, providing input for existing unit SOPs, providing technical assistance and training to full time staff and interns, liaising with internal planning units around outreach strategies, building community relationships at the ground level, assisting with the creation of on-boarding materials, providing input for annual performance evaluations, and providing feedback for programmatic planning and review.

The Creative Communications Lead will report to the field as needed for content development and capture. Typical projects support safety improvements such as bike lane development, busway and bus lane development, Open Streets, public plazas and Citi Bike expansion. This is an opportunity to work with a team dedicated to improving safety, accessibility, and mobility throughout New York City.

Preferred Skills
The applicant should have a firm command of design and accessibility standards, and be able to oversee and assist staff working with applications and tools on related design and data tasks assignments. The candidate will also establish and develop best practices/ procedures/ standards around inclusive design and accessibility. Some tasks may involve working with geospatial elements and map design (some familiarity with GIS is a plus). Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office, SurveyMonkey, Adobe Suite (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Adobe Express, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Adobe Bridge, etc.), Drupal, Graphic Design principles, Inclusive and Accessible design standards, branding management and composition.

This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program agreed to between the City and DC37.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
