Position Summary
TRS' Qualified Pension Plan (QPP) is a defined benefit plan that provides members with a monthly retirement allowance upon meeting certain eligibility requirements. TRS members can also enhance their benefits with a Tax-Deferred Annuity (TDA) Program, which offers multiple investment options and tax-deferred earnings.

As a Correspondence Specialist, you will provide clear, accurate, and timely guidance to members on pension-related matters through email, letters, and chat. Your role includes resolving inquiries, explaining policies, and ensuring members receive the support they need.

Responsibilities
- Respond to written inquiries from members and external stakeholders' regarding pension-related topics, ensuring clarity, professionalism, and accuracy.
- Research and synthesize information using internal databases, pension laws, and TRS regulations to provide well-informed responses.
- Draft grammatically correct, courteous and tailored written correspondence for email, letters, and chat, effectively communicating policies and procedures.
- Engage with members via digital channels (email, chat) in a warm, professional tone that meets agency standards.
- Collaborate with internal teams to resolve complex inquiries and ensure consistency in responses across departments.
- Assist the Call Center and Walk-in-Center as needed, serving as a knowledgeable and dependable resource for member support.
- Maintain organized record of correspondence and inquiries to support data tracking and continuous improvement.
- Identify trends in member concerns and recommend process improvements or communication strategies to enhance service delivery.

Minimum Qualifications

1. An associate degree or completion of 60 credits from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 9 credits in mathematics, statistics, accounting, and/or actuarial science; or

2. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and two years of satisfactory full-time experience performing mathematical, statistical, actuarial or accounting computations in one or more of the following: a) a retirement or employee benefits plan; b) customer service in a financial
institution; and/or c) in a position requiring the application of laws, rules and regulations and the use of statistical, actuarial or similar tables; or

3. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to “1" or “2" above. College education may be substituted for experience in “2" above on the basis that 30 semester credits from an accredited college may be substituted for each year of required experience. However, all candidates must posses a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and either 9 semester credits
in mathematics, statistics, accounting and/or actuarial science from an accredited college or one year of experience as described in “2" above.


Preferred Skills

- At least 2 years of experience in a correspondence or customer-service role. - Excellent writing and editing skills with strong attention to grammar, clarity and tone. - Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for organizing and analyzing data. - Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment. - Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities. - Knowledge of pension and benefit administration is a plus.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
