The Teachers’ Retirement System of the City of New York (TRS) is a public pension fund that provides New York City educators with retirement, disability, and death benefits. TRS is currently the City’s second-largest pension system and it is one of the largest pension plan sponsors in the United States, with more than $100 billion in assets and over 200,000 members, retirees, and beneficiaries.
The successful candidate is a highly motivated, member-focused professional who will provide prompt, efficient, and friendly services to TRS’ members on a wide range of pension-related inquiries, concerns, and complaints related to TRS’ products and services. Many inquiries can vary significantly in complexity, requiring the representative to possess a comprehensive understanding of pension laws, regulations, and policies. The candidate must navigate through complex pension system database and documentation to retrieve accurate information and provide timely assistance to members. The candidate should enjoy researching and providing prompt and accurate written responses that effectively communicates factual information regarding TRS’ products and services, via written correspondence, chat, and email.
Responsibilities
- Reviews incoming written inquiries and requests from member and outside entities regarding TRS' products and services.
- Researches inquiries using computer based information plus benefits knowledge, collaborating with TRS processing units to obtain timely, clear, concise and appropriate information needed to respond to written inquiries.
- Prepares letters using good grammar and punctuation, ensuring the recipient's requests have been addressed in a user-friendly, courteous, and professional tone that meets the agency standard.
- Provide responses via email and chat using good grammar and punctuation, ensuring the recipient's requests have been addressed in a user-friendly, courteous, and professional tone that meets the agency standard.
- Serves as a backup in the Member Services Call Center and Walk-in-Center as needed.
1. An associate degree or completion of 60 credits from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 9 credits in mathematics, statistics, accounting, and/or actuarial science; or
2. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and two years of satisfactory full-time experience performing mathematical, statistical, actuarial or accounting computations in one or more of the following: a) a retirement or employee benefits plan; b) customer service in a financial
institution; and/or c) in a position requiring the application of laws, rules and regulations and the use of statistical, actuarial or similar tables; or
3. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to “1" or “2" above. College education may be substituted for experience in “2" above on the basis that 30 semester credits from an accredited college may be substituted for each year of required experience. However, all candidates must posses a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and either 9 semester credits
in mathematics, statistics, accounting and/or actuarial science from an accredited college or one year of experience as described in “2" above.
- 2+ years correspondence experience. - Ability to analyze and prepare correspondence. - Ability to prepare breakdowns using MS Excel. - Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time. - Ability to identify problems and come up with an appropriate solution.
