The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), the largest public housing authority in North America, was created in 1935 to provide decent, affordable housing for low- and moderate-income New Yorkers. NYCHA is home to roughly 1 in 16 New Yorkers across over 177,569 apartments within 335 housing developments through public housing, Section 8, and PACT/RAD programs.

The Department of Resident Services, Partnerships and Initiatives (RSPI) engages NYCHA residents in critical programs, services, and initiatives in the areas of economic opportunity, youth, senior and social services; supports NYCHA’s extensive network of Resident Associations; and connects residents to opportunities such as financial empowerment, business development, career advancement, and educational programs.

The Office of Public-Private Partnerships (OPPP) builds collaborations with the private, public, and philanthropic sectors to support NYCHA’s goals of preserving public housing and improving resident access to community-based services and opportunities. Resident Services, Partnerships & Initiatives seeks a self-motivated and committed Community Coordinator to join its OPPP team.

Under general direction of the Director of Public Private Partnerships, responsibilities of the Community Relations Manager (CRM) include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Support RSPI’s mission of connecting residents to services, opportunities, and resources by strengthening partnerships and advocating for the use of community spaces in the respective borough portfolio (Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens & Staten Island).
2. Manage key relationships with Resident Leaders, Center Providers and NYCHA frontline staff to ensure that there is a strong working relationship.
3. Facilitate collaborations with our Strategic Partnerships Unit as a means of enriching resources and services provided.
4. Resolve center inquiries and project tasks with the appropriate stakeholders. This also includes notifying the Strategic Projects Manager when/if issues arise that require escalation, to include senior management intervention.
5. Respond to time-sensitive requests from the Strategic Projects Manager and RSPI Senior Leadership.
6. Organize and coordinate meetings.
7. Represent the Office of Public Private Partnerships and NYCHA at external resident, community and citywide events including meetings with senior NYCHA leadership.
8. Provide project management leadership and support to assigned projects and ensure production of deliverables.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

1. Working knowledge of both public housing and/or community center operations. 2. Excellent verbal, writing and editing skills. 3. Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated record as a self-starter and team-player. 4. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with community-based organizations, city agencies and community leaders. 5. Excellent detail-orientation and follow-up skills with ability to meet deadlines. 6. Proficiency with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams. 7. Always exhibits a high standard of professionalism and quality customer service.
