NYC Parks Tree Time program, with the City Parks Foundation serving as fiscal sponsor, was established in 1994 to protect, preserve, and enhance New York City's street, park and forest trees. The project Stewarding Canopy and Community in Central Queens will maximize access to urban forest benefits for the disadvantaged communities of Jackson Heights Elmhurst, and Corona in Queens, New York. The project includes growing the urban forest through planting trees and preserving existing trees. It promotes community engagement through outreach, education, and empowerment. The project also offers paid training and employment opportunities for youth and adults, focusing on workforce development and green jobs.
Major Responsibilities
- Under general supervision, with the latitude for independent initiative and judgment, perform responsible work and assigned tasks to provide necessary and important community services.
- Using the latest technology and local volunteers, identify potential planting places for street and parkland trees.
- Identify locations for advanced forestry work to be completed such as tree bed expansions, tree guards, planting of groundcover and bulbs, pruning of existing trees.
- Work with a broad cross-section of the community to implement a community forestry plan.
- Implement an aggressive project plan set forth over the remainder of the five-year project period.
- Coordinate project partners such as Trees NY, Partnerships for Parks and other Central Queens stakeholders to implement the community forestry plan.

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
1. Experience in community outreach, consensus building or public relations. 2. Knowledge of urban forestry management issues and experience supervising tree planting contractors and planting trees. 3. Excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database software. 4. Writing and desktop publishing experience. 5. Ability to work independently. 6. Fluency in Spanish or Chinese or Bengali 7. Valid New York State driver license.
