Job Description

This vacancy has now expired.

The NYC Public Engagement Unit (PEU) identifies and executes proactive strategies to connect more New Yorkers to key City services. Relying heavily on data analytics, new technologies, and large-scale outreach tactics, the unit identifies New Yorkers in need of assistance and helps them navigate and obtain City services.

The Public Engagement Unit’s (PEU) Special Projects team works full-time to support all PEU units – Home Support Unit, Tenant Support Unit, and GetCoveredNYC, – while remaining flexible enough to take on the coordination of new projects based on the City’s most urgent priorities. As the City’s in-house “campaign” experts, PEU’s Special Projects Team leverages interagency resources, City staff volunteers, and technology in agile and creative ways to design and implement new outreach strategies for the City’s most pressing initiatives.

PEU is seeking one (1) Community Coordinator to function as a Community Engagement Coordinator for the Special Projects team. This individual will report to the Special Projects Deputy Director and work in close partnership with Senior Leadership, the Public Engagement Unit (PEU), agency partners, and other internal and external stakeholders to support City-wide initiatives. The Community Outreach Coordinator will work in collaboration with one or more of the outreach departments listed below:

The Home Support Unit (HSU) conducts outreach to landlords and brokers (LLBs) to identify vacant homes for voucher holders living in shelters. HSU supports LLBs through the entire process of
working with the City to ensure that they have a positive experience and choose to continue to provide units to voucher recipients in the future.

Tenant Support Unit (TSU) proactively engages tenants to help them navigate a wide range of housing issues - from high rents to potential evictions. TSU is the home of the Tenant Helpline, the Universal Access to Counsel team (UATC), the Rent Freeze team (RF), and Tenant Support Unit outreach team.

Get Covered NYC (GCNYC) is a team of multilingual public health education professionals who proactively identify uninsured New Yorkers and help them get enrolled in health insurance.

The Community Engagement Coordinator will:

- Provide programmatic support and logistical planning for Outreach teams and the
Outreach Directors.

- Oversee community engagement projects and operations for multiple outreach teams
(specifically supporting Outreach Leads and Specialists) to ensure daily community
support and analysis goals are met.

- Identify new opportunities to support agencies and initiatives by leveraging existing
outreach staff, data and technology.

- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to effectively coordinate and analyze
housing and/or healthcare outreach efforts across NYC.

- Track program progress towards qualitative and quantitative goals and provide regular
reports to internal and external stakeholders.

- Evaluate program performance to inform key decisions about PEU initiatives, including
program goals, paid media, and community engagement campaigns.
