The New York City Department of Probation is actively seeking dynamic and motivated candidates to fill the position of Neighborhood Opportunity Network (NeON) Community Coordinators. Neon Coordinators will play a role in DOP’s efforts to provide a broad range of opportunities, resources and services to our probation clients in their local neighborhoods.
Under the supervision of the Director of NeON, the NeON Coordinators will assist in the day to day operations of a NeON Office. Specific duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Greeting clients and members of the public upon their arrival at DOP offices, and responding to requests for information about DOP and its procedures.
- Responding to and/or directing telephone inquiries from DOP clients and the public including responding to requests for appointment scheduling, copies of case files and related materials, address changes and court inquiries.
- Performing routine office tasks which may include filing and locating records, case files and related materials creating, sorting and routing of supervision case folders, scanning/organizing various documents, digital photographing of probation clients and compilation of DP-30 reports.
- Arranging for language interpretation services for individuals who are unable to communicate effectively in English assisting with the completion of forms such as permission to travel and providing clients information on various community-based resources.
- Improving communication between DOP and its clients by assisting with information requests involving the case management and other automated office systems including: researching case status, fact-finding and transfer of cases, as well as: entering court events pertaining probation supervision, logging cases, generating case numbers and face sheets and entering violation of probation (VOP) information.
- Manage special projects and perform other related duties, as required.
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success with communications and large-scale multifaceted projects. The candidate will also exhibit: - Experience implementing and managing projects involving diverse stakeholders. - Ability to organize and drive projects to timely completion. - Strong management and leadership skills. - Ability to interact and work well with others in a diverse team environment, as well as with high-level executives and senior managers. - Outstanding analytical, problem solving and creative thinking abilities. - Ability to combine attention to detail with a clear understanding of the big picture. - Ability to tackle difficult and multifaceted problems in fast-paced environments. - Experience with workforce development and/or adult education policy or programming. - The ability to present effectively in front of senior staff and business executives and articulate the mission and vision of the unit. - Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Familiarity with Access and Adobe Acrobat preferred.
