Job Description
This vacancy has now expired.
The Division of Transportation Planning and Management (TPM) is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets, including street-related energy policies and supporting the larger goals of economic and social vitality for people living, working, and doing business in New York City. The Division’s responsibilities include planning, street design, technical analysis, signs, bus lanes and busways, electric vehicle charging, freight mobility and markings, and ensuring the safety of motor vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and cyclists. Transit Development (TD) is responsible for developing public transit-supportive street infrastructure and policies in order to improve mobility for all New Yorkers. The unit manages the Better Buses initiative and transit policy initiatives and develops location-specific projects to help the quality and safety of bus operations, and to improve pedestrian access to transit. TD also serves as a resource to the agency on public transit related matters, including acting as one of the key points of contact with the MTA agencies.
TPM seeks to hire 2 Community Coordinators to serve the TD unit. Reporting to the Director and / or Deputy Director of Bus Priority, the Coordinators will manage key community outreach related to the planning, design, and implementation of bus priority projects to improve the speed and reliability of bus operations on New York City streets. They will conduct outreach with the general public, work with community boards and other public stakeholders in public workshops, presentations, and other settings. The selected candidates will work collaboratively within the TD unit, closely with other DOT staff, and with other City, State, and Federal agencies (particularly the MTA). The coordinators will contribute to proposals to improve bus service on identified corridors using NYC DOT s toolkit, including bus lanes, bus queue jumps, bus bulbs, bus boarding islands, curb management, and pedestrian safety improvements. These positions will oversee and train junior staff as well as managing consultant work efforts and contracts, as well as capital grants; create GIS maps and perform other technical planning analysis. This is an opportunity to work with a team dedicated to improving safety, accessibility, and mobility throughout New York City.
The Department of Transportation’s (DOT) mission is to provide for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods in the City of New York and to maintain and enhance the transportation infrastructure crucial to the economic vitality and quality of life of our primary customers, City residents.
