THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION WITH A DURATION FOR 5 YEARS.

The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is the nation’s largest public housing authority, with an operating budget of $3.3 billion and approximately 10,600 employees who manage and maintain 326 developments that house over 400,000 residents. NYCHA also operates the country’s largest Section 8 program, which provides rental assistance to over 200,000 additional families. NYCHA is standing up a new division, Healthy Homes, which will report directly to the General Manager (or COO) and be in charge of performing the operational side of environmental hazard compliance.

The Community Associate for Asbestos department will be assisting the team with the administrative and clerical support.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Provide and improve community services by performing liaison function including, improving communication between City agencies, community organizations and groups, and the individuals they represent and service.
2. Perform difficult and responsible clerical operations.
3. Respond to vendors questions, help with daily issues and provide guidance on problems that might arise.
4. Train subordinate personnel on project tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualification Requirements
1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.


Preferred Skills

1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 2. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. 3. Knowledge of MS Office - Excel, Word and Access knowledge of Maximo. 4. Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams. 5. Ability to analyze significant amounts of information and identify the most important issues. 6. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and successfully carry out multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
