Job Description
The New York City Comptroller’s Office works to promote the financial health, integrity, and effectiveness of New York City government, in order to strengthen trust, secure a thriving future for all New Yorkers, and build a more just, equitable, and resilient city. Led by an independently elected citywide official, the comptroller’s office provides checks and balances needed to hold City government accountable for budgeting wisely, investing responsibly, operating efficiently, acting fairly, living up to its obligations and promises, and paying attention to the long-term challenges we face together.
The Bureau of Public Affairs is the principal liaison between the New York City Comptroller’s office and the public, elected officials, and community-based organizations. The Bureau provides engagement, organizing, and event planning capacity to support the Comptroller’s strategic objectives and provide direct assistance to New Yorkers navigating City bureaucracy. Public Affairs is responsible for making the Comptroller’s Office more accessible to everyday New Yorkers, as well as collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to leverage the tools of the office in ways that improve the lives of New Yorkers across the five boroughs.
Community Associate - Community Action Center (CAC) is responsible for providing direct constituent services and will be responsible for providing assistance to constituents who need assistance with a range of issues from assistance with pensions, filing claims against the city, and so on. This role will communicate both internally in our agency and externally to the other City agencies to provide assistance for constituents and will also on occasion go out into the field to provide information about our office or collect constituent issues via tabling events.
Community Associate - Community Action Center (CAC) will report directly to the Director of the Community Action Center. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Reviewing a high volume of constituent casework
- Resolving issues and communicate with constituents in a timely manner
- Building and maintaining internal and external agency contacts to provide information and assistance
- Corresponding with appropriate point persons at various external agencies
- Managing incoming inquiries from a variety of different formats
- Redirecting inquires that are not relevant to the office
- Performing other related assignments and special projects as required.
Qualification Requirements
1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
- Strong communications skills - Experience with direct facing service - Ability to triage cases - Strong organization and record keeping skills - Navigating internal and external Bureaucracy
