We are seeking an experienced, versatile, and highly-motivated individual to join the NYC Department of Transportation’s Office of Communications as a Communications Strategist. The selected candidate, reporting directly to the Chief Communications Officer, will manage special projects and lead key communications initiatives that span units within the Office of Communications. The candidate will also oversee podcast production, provide supplemental video production, and directly support the Chief Communications Officer on strategic planning.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide strategic guidance and support to the Chief Communications Officer;
- Manage complex projects and initiatives that span units across the NYC Department of Transportation’s Office of Communications;
- Oversee the recording and producing of an agency podcast;
- Assist with minor video production projects;
- Work with personnel across the agency to identify opportunities to promote the agency’s work and services it offers the public;
- Provide support with staff adoption of the agency style guide;
- Serve as the project manager on key communications projects such as the creation of an agency annual report;
- Review agency communications materials for clarity and consistency;
- Other related responsibilities as assigned by the Chief Communications Officer.
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
- A proven track record as a communications professional in areas such as marketing, visual communications, writing, and strategic planning - Highly organized and experienced in project management - A strategic, big-picture thinker - Outstanding creativity - A proven track record in developing and executing creative strategies on social media, advertising, or marketing - A versatile skillset in multiple areas related to communications - Experience in audio and video production, including demonstrable work product - At least three years of experience in a communications-related field
