Position Summary
The Public Information Office (PIO) leads the agency’s mass communications efforts, ensuring clear and impactful messaging across multiple platforms. The PIO Publications Team is responsible for producing a range of external communications, including newsletters, financial reports, brochures, email campaigns, and other key materials designed to inform and engage our members and stakeholders.

The Communication Specialist will support TRS’ external communications initiatives, ensuring clear, engaging, and brand-aligned messaging and will collaborate with stakeholders to develop informative content that strengthens engagement and reinforces TRS’ mission. Reporting to the Manager of Publications, key duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Responsibilities
- Create and edit content for newsletters, reports, brochures, email campaigns, and other external communications.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and alignment with TRS branding.
- Proofread and mange publication workflows, maintaining consistency in messaging and visual presentation.
- Assist with digital content creation, supporting web and email communications strategies.
- Manage communication projects, ensuring deadlines, quality standards, and stakeholder expectations are met.
- Support team initiatives, participate in meetings and contribute ideas to enhance communications strategies.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

- Expertise in corporate communications, media relations, and stakeholder engagement. - Strong editorial, proofreading, and content development skills across print, digital, email, reports. - Proficiency in brand messaging, marketing campaigns, and strategic communication planning. - Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently while ensuring quality, consistency, and timely delivery. - Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and content management systems. - Exceptional collaborative and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally in fast-paced environment. - Background in financial services, education, or mission-driven organizations. - Proven ability to simplify complex technical content into clear, engaging message for diverse audiences. - Experience in web design and content production is a plus.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
