The New York City Department of Probation (DOP) helps build stronger and safer communities by working with and supervising people on probation, fostering positive change in their decision-making and behavior, and expanding opportunities for them to move out of the criminal and juvenile justice systems through meaningful education, employment, health services, family engagement and civic participation. We are located in every borough across the City and provide three core services –pre-sentence investigations, intake and probation supervision. In summary, DOP ensures that people who enter our system are supervised according to their risk level and receive the support and services they need to abide by the law and be an asset to their communities.

The Department of Probation is seeking highly motivated students to assist with daily operations within various commands. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assisting in data collection, data entry, and basic descriptive analyses in Microsoft Access or Excel.
- Assisting in managing research databases that will help the agency assess both client outcomes and its own performance in serving clients.
- Preparing basic reports and presentations on research findings, with close guidance team members and supervisors.
- Assist in the preparation, support and maintenance of database applications, complex spreadsheets and tracking reports; and PowerPoint presentations;
- Assist in the analysis of data and report findings;
- Perform data entry into automated systems;
- Assist with research and information gathering utilizing internet tools and social media technologies;
- Assist with special projects and initiatives as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

For Assignment Level I:
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.
For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.

SPECIAL NOTE
Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.

- Good analytical, research skills - Strong verbal and written communication skills. - Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe - Detailed Oriented - Ability to handle multiple projects and varying timelines - Ability to work both independently and within a group - Moderate to strong quantitative and qualitative research skills. - Moderate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications, specifically Microsoft Office, Excel and PowerPoint. - Ability to maintain a calm, pleasant, and cheerful demeanor. - Must present a professional appearance, be dependable, punctual and present a willingness to take initiative. - Ability to adhere to confidential information policies. - Some background in criminal and especially juvenile justice policy (e.g., provide relevant course descriptions).
Residency Requirement

New York City residency is not required for this position however, you must reside in New York State.
