NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for administering the tax revenue laws of the city fairly, efficiently, and transparently to instill public confidence and encourage compliance while providing exceptional customer service.
The Finance Information Technology (FIT) Division designs, builds, and supports all facets of DOF’s computer systems, including hardware, software, applications, infrastructure, telephone, and data security. FIT delivers and administers tax-related payment programs for the City of New York by providing the information technology solutions needed to achieve its mission of collecting revenue while ensuring an efficient and improved customer experience. FIT is also responsible for the systems and websites which enable citywide payments, land records, property assessment, parking adjudications, customer service, and the Sheriff’s public safety work.
FIT is currently seeking a Cloud Architect who will report to the FIT Operations Officer and play a critical modernization role for the Network Operations team. The Cloud Architect will oversee the management and maintenance of FIT's cloud computing systems, including servers, storage, and network infrastructure. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing cloud strategies, evaluating cloud applications and hardware, designing, and implementing cloud infrastructure solutions, and organizing cloud systems to meet the operational needs of the organization. In addition, the Cloud Architect will work closely with diverse IT teams to enhance our cloud infrastructure, optimize its performance, and address technical issues. This exciting role requires staying updated on cloud computing technologies and trends, and effectively communicating complex cloud concepts to management and IT partners.
Responsibilities include:
- Creating a well-informed cloud strategy and managing the migration process.
- Evaluating cloud applications, hardware, and software.
- Developing and organizing scalable, resilient cloud systems.
- Working closely with IT security to monitor the company's cloud privacy.
- Assisting the Enterprise Architect on designing technical governance, assurance, and standards.
- Responding to technical issues in a professional and timely manner.
- Offering guidance in infrastructure migrations, including bulk application transfers into the cloud.
- Identifying the top cloud architecture solutions to successfully meet the needs of the agency.
- Leading our organization through cloud adoption and establishing best practices.
- Vetting and selecting cloud providers and third-party services to align with agency needs.
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or
2. An associate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and six years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or
3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and eight years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or
4. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above.
- Minimum five years of design and implementation experience in IT, with a deep knowledge in cloud technologies and a minimum of three of the following (or similar) technical disciplines: infrastructure and network design, application development, application programming interfaces (APIs), middleware, servers and storage, database management and operations, clustering technologies, and Active Directory and protocols. - Proven, hands-on experience designing and implementing cloud architecture. - Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills in teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation. - Excellent analytical and technical skills. - Effective communication skills (written and verbal) to properly present proposed logical architecture and to articulate complicated cloud concepts to management and other IT development partners.
