The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) keeps New York City healthy, safe, and clean by collecting, recycling, and disposing of waste, cleaning City streets and vacant lots, and clearing snow and ice. DSNY is the nation's largest municipal sanitation agency, with nearly 10,000 employees, 59 district garages, and a fleet of more than 5,000 trucks, cars, and other types of equipment. The Department clears litter, snow, and ice from approximately 6,500 miles of City streets and removes debris from vacant lots as well as abandoned vehicles from City streets.
The New York City Department of Sanitation is seeking an experienced professional to join our Employee Assistance Unit (EAU), the agency’s in-house Employee Assistance Program. The EAU supports DSNY’s workforce of approximately 10,000 employees and is part of the Department’s Medical Division.
Responsibilities of the Clerical Associate in EAU include, but are not limited to:
1. Answering phones and recording messages, including inputting all new referrals in the EAU database
2. Maintaining and updating folders/charts as needed
3. Networking with DSNY staff to encourage and forge relationships to promote collaboration
4. Becoming familiar with all aspects of EAU operations (data base, forms, treatment programs, referrals) to promote balance of workflow
5. Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement activities such as conducting monthly quality assurance projects to track services and documentation, participating in quality indicator projects to improve services
6. Providing crisis counseling as needed to employees who call the main number, providing information to EAU counselors who will follow up with employees, handling clients who may present as irrational and upset
7. Tracking supplies, business cards, and other resources which contribute to efficient operations
8. Providing clerical support as needed to EAU counselors and other Medical Division staff
9. Other related tasks as assigned
Qualification Requirements
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of satisfactory clerical experience.
Skills Requirement
Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.
Applicants must perform tasks in a professional manner while maintaining confidentiality must have excellent communication skills must remain professional and courteous during all communications must have strong organizational skills must be attentive to detail must be self-motivated to take initiative must have an ability to multi-task and must be comfortable using computers, specifically MS Word and Excel.
