Job Description
NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for administering the tax revenue laws of the city fairly, efficiently, and transparently to instill public confidence and encourage compliance while providing exceptional customer service.
The Customer Operations Division has an oversight of DOF’s Business Centers, City Register’s Office, and the Land Records, Adjudication, and Collections Divisions. Customer Operations is charged with the processing of tax payments, parking violations payments, and all other charges collected by DOF. The Division is also responsible for recording property transfers, adjudicating parking and camera violations, and managing the full life cycle of the department’s enforcement activities related to unpaid business and excise taxes, parking fines, and Environmental Control Board summonses.
The Adjudication Division is responsible for conducting hearings on all parking and camera violations issued in New York City. It hosts in-person hearings in Business Centers and conducts hearings by mail, web, and mobile app. In addition, the judges hear appeals of parking ticket determinations, and a special unit for Commercial Adjudications conducts hearings and appeals on tickets issued to commercial vehicles.
The Claims and Information Compliance Coordinator position is a new and necessary position in the division which will provide service and support to the community with the daily operations of the division and the Administrative Law Judges (ALJs) adjudicating parking summonses on behalf of the City of New York.
The Claims and Information Compliance Coordinator is responsible for:
- Working closely with the public (Brokers and their clients) to obtain and manage parking ticket appeal documents and records of past hearings, liaison with the external users.
- Organizing records and documents to be archived at the warehouse, using the records retention system, for easy retrieval when requests are made by the broker community and their clients.
- Ensuring that the maintenance, retrieval, inventory, retention, and destruction of all records are
in accordance with the Agency's record retention policy.
- Preparing, filling, and creating bar codes for boxes with the documents that are ready to be archived.
- Setting up completed boxes to be picked up by Facilities Management and moving new boxes in place for next pick up.
- Performing difficult and responsible clerical operations which include the review of appeals claims against DOF records, such as Decision and Orders received by the respondent and databases, such as STARS, (the system of record), verifying all information; communicating with and assisting the community to make sure they know their hearing determination as well as the proper amount owed for their summons(s).
- Preparing files for the appeals panel to adjudicate for respondents choosing to have their appeals heard by mail.
- Assisting with the review and distribution of all incoming mail to the staff for processing.

Qualification Requirements
1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
- Good communication skills. - Experience working with the public. - Good Working Knowledge of Excel. - Able to lift boxes weighing 30 lbs.
