Job Description

Major Responsibilities

- Under general supervision, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, work closely with senior Public Programs leadership, Park Administrators and Borough Chiefs of Recreation to facilitate programming that will enable all New Yorkers to lead physically active and intellectually stimulating lives through sports, fitness, outdoor adventure, technology, education and the arts.
- Work closely with Borough Permitting Offices. Work closely with relevant Borough and Recreation teams to ensure Citywide initiatives and goals are addressed.
- Work closely with Borough Operations and Synthetic Turf Director to ensure that field conditions, lighting and other permittable amenities are available for public use. Implement and manage athletic field use inspection program.
- Develop and provide trainings for Permit Offices on Borough and Citywide levels.
- Serve as the liaison to the City Events Management System and GIS Athletic database for Athletic Facilities.
- Provide the Assistant Commissioner for Public Programs and Deputy Commissioner for Public Programs and Community Engagement with needs analyses (including justifications for budgets and new initiatives), timely reporting and accurate statistical data.
- Manage the Athletic Permits Automated External Defibrillators (AED) program as required by local law.
- Work closely with Legal, New Media, Operations and Management Planning, Information Technology & Telecommunications, the First Deputy Commissioner’s office and other Parks Divisions.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

1. Experience with Citywide Events Management System. 2. A thorough understanding of NYC Parks permitting process. 3. Excellent management, administrative and communication skills. 4. Experience planning, coordinating and/or supervising recreation programs. 5. Valid New York State driver license. 6. Available to work evenings and weekends.

Residency Requirement

Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
