The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.

The Bureau of Customer Services (BCS) oversees the production and collection of water and wastewater bills along with all the work required to maintain our citywide network of meters and meter reading devices. BCS serves approximately 836,000 customers and generates $3.6 billion of revenue annually.

The Bureau of Customer Services is seeking candidates for temporary assignments within the bureau.

Under direct supervision, the selected candidates will be responsible for the packing, unpacking, counting, weighing and measuring of materials, supplies and equipment. Additionally, load and unload at the warehouse and the point of pick-up, delivery or distribution. May travel to point of delivery or distribution, operate other necessary equipment to perform loading and unloading.

The selected candidate will check materials received against invoices and note any breakage and discrepancies in quantity. May operate electric transports and lift trucks. Keep storage facilities and materials clean and orderly, care for stock. Keep records and assists in preparing inventories.
Upon the completion of this project, selected candidates will assist with the multi-step process of reviewing bureau documents and final disposition. This process includes: reviewing, categorizing, shredding or offsite storing of documents.

Physical/Environmental Factors:
Lifting and carrying up to 20lbs, packing/unpacking boxes, materials and equipment,
Noisy warehouse environment, in climate weather conditions.
Vehicles moving in and out of warehouse throughout the day.
Traveling from site MTF to Wards Island when transporting recycle material.
Prolonged standing
Prolonged use of computer

Minimum Qualifications

While there are no formal education or experience requirements, certain programs may require such standards. Good physical condition is required for certain programs.


Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
