JOB DESCRIPTION:

The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Management and Budget, Facilities Management Division seeks a City Research Scientist level III who will be responsible for the following:

- Oversee the development of contracts related to the environmental components of various construction projects.
- Conduct environmental compliance inspections covering wide range of environmental compliance areas including waste management, storm water, remediation of petroleum storage, wetlands.
- Engage in or conduct complex research, investigations, studies and examinations related to the environmental functions or activities of the agency.
- Approve or supervise the design, inspection, construction, demolition and/or alteration of premises, installations and equipment to ensure compliance with contracts, drawings, specifications, codes, resolutions, statutes, rules and regulations.
- Assist agency staff in preparation of environmental permits.
- Assist in curing environmental related violations.
- Supervise the installation, inspection and testing operations at job sites as well contractor activities; Ensure compliance with regulatory agency permits, regulations or programs including Spills, Brownfield Cleanup, Environmental Restoration Storm Water and Materials.

WORK LOCATION: 1 Police Plaza NY, NY 10038

HOURS/SHIFT: Monday - Friday; 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Minimum Qualifications

1. For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health) A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above, candidates must have:
1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
2. A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in "2" above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in "1" and "2" above.

NOTE:
Probationary Period
Appointments to this position are subject to a minimum probationary period of one year.


Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
