The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is the largest Fire Department in the United States and universally is recognized as the world's busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) seeks a full-time City Laborer to support facility operations, maintenance activities, and logistical functions within the Bureau of Facilities Management. Reporting to Carpenters supervisor, the selected candidate will move, lift, and transport materials and equipment of varying sizes; assist with exterior upkeep, basic landscaping, and general building support; maintain storage areas; and make deliveries throughout the five boroughs. Duties include operating hand and power tools, motorized equipment, forklifts, and City vehicles to support daily operations and facility needs.

Under supervision, City Laborers assist skilled trades and maintenance staff with repair, upkeep, and improvement projects involving buildings, paved surfaces, and related infrastructure. Work may include assisting with repairs, material removal and replacement, site preparation, cleaning and clearing drains or basins, mixing, and using concrete, and supporting safe excavation and backfilling activities. Employees load and unload equipment and supplies, operate motorized equipment, and perform physically active work such as lifting, bending, climbing, and working outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, and holidays as operational needs require.

License Requirements
Possession of a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York.

Residency Requirement


New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
