The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City’s evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, visitors, volunteers and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7,500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.
The DOC seeks to hire City Laborers. Day to day function may include, under immediate supervision, in various City agencies, performs common laboring work requiring physical strength. Moves, lifts and carries items of various weights and sizes. May utilize hand or power-driven equipment in the performance of duties. May be required to operate motor vehicles in connection with the performance of duties. Performs related work. By assignment, may oversee the daily activities of other laborers in the performance of their duties moving, lifting, and carrying of heavy objects; hauling, loading and unloading of materials, mixing and placing of concrete, and other work of a heavy nature. This includes other work in connection with the care of grounds. Workers will be performing routine maintenance and minor repair work.

License Requirements
Possession of a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York.
