Job Description
The NYC Department of Transportation is seeking to hire 2 City Attendants to support the daily operations of the mailroom by performing a variety of tasks related to the receipt, sorting, delivery, and dispatch of inter-office and U.S. mail. Under direct supervision by the Director of Mail Services & Store the City Attendant will and assist in various functions, such as mail distribution, incoming and outgoing mail & parcels, prepare reports, correspondence, track all certified mail, special deliveries and liaison with USPS, UPS and FEDEX. This role includes various responsibilities within the mailroom as assigned and necessary:
Job Responsibilities:
- Receive, sort, and distribute incoming inter-office and U.S. Postal Service mail.
- Process and prepare outgoing mail, including affixing postage, packaging materials, and ensuring proper labeling and documentation.
- Maintain accurate logs for incoming and outgoing mail and deliveries.
- Pick up and deliver mail and packages between city offices and facilities, including scheduled trips to central mail centers or post offices.
- Respond to inquiries regarding mail-related procedures, deliveries, or special mail handling.
- Assist in preparing reports related to mail volume, postage expenditures, and staffing.
- May open and close mailroom facilities daily, check equipment, and secure entry points.
- Replace light bulbs or fuses as needed and report facility issues to maintenance.
- Provide backup coverage for urgent deliveries or after-hour needs.
- Perform other mailroom duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements
1. There are no formal educational or experience requirements for this position.
2. There are certain medical and physical requirements.
- Previous experience in a mailroom or facilities operations setting. - Familiarity with USPS mailing requirements and metering equipment. - Ability to lift and move parcels up to 70lbs and perform physical tasks related to maintenance. - Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. - Ability to follow schedules and work independently or as part of a team.
