The Fire Department, City of New York (FDNY) is the largest Fire Department in the United States and universally is recognized as the world's busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. The Department's main goal is to provide the fire protection, emergency medical care, and other critical public safety services to residents and visitors in the five boroughs. The Fire Department, City of New York (FDNY), seeks a qualified candidate, with a proven record of success, to be its Chief Professionalism Officer (CPO). The selected candidate will be a subject-matter expert in workplace professionalism and culture, and will serve as a Deputy Commissioner, reporting directly to the Fire Commissioner while participating as a member of the FDNY executive leadership team. The CPO will be a strategic leader who works through collaboration across the agency to meet the Department’s commitment to fair, equitable, and professional standards of hiring/retention, personnel management, and equal opportunity. The CPO will collaborate with other members of the executive team in the design and implementation of leadership and diversity efforts and serve as a liaison to employee affinity organizations at the FDNY. The candidate should be able to demonstrate ability establishing, executing, and measuring successful workplace professionalism efforts, as well as serving as a change agent by mobilizing, influencing, and building consensus among key stakeholders.

Preferred Skills
Certifications in areas of diversity and inclusion, or labor relations or human resources are preferred along with existing memberships in best practices organizations focused on workplace professionalism.. Very strong leadership and change management skills, along with exceptional analytical skills and communication skills. Experience with the laws and regulations related to EEO familiarity with investigatory practices and a working knowledge of mediation and alternate dispute practices are beneficial. Professional experience in the military or with a uniformed force preferred.

Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
