The Department of Probation (DOP) is seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Chief Investigator to support the Legal Department. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide executive leadership and oversee investigative activities, which include surveillance, evidence management, witness interviews, and sensitive disciplinary investigations.
- Supervise field investigators and other unit staff in all facets of investigative work, ensuring efficiency, accountability, and alignment with agency priorities.
- Plan, direct, and assess disciplinary investigations, prepare findings, and recommend penalties to executive leadership.
- Act as the primary decision-maker for intricate undercover operations, offering strategic guidance and ensuring the safety, integrity, and success of these operations.
- Oversee the creation and execution of investigative policies and procedures, making recommendations that are consistent with legal standards, agency objectives, and best practices.
- Direct, monitor, and assess complex investigations to guarantee compliance with office priorities and investigative best practices.
- Review case details with General Counsel when necessary.
- Lead special projects and strategic initiatives as instructed by executive leadership, contributing to the Department’s long-term operational planning and policy formulation.
- Promote interagency collaboration with law enforcement and partner organizations to facilitate intelligence-sharing, threat assessment, and investigative coordination.
- Mentor and develop investigative staff, encouraging professional growth, continuous improvement, and a culture of integrity and accountability.

ASSISTANT DIR OF ADMINISTRATIO - 51874
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of full-time experience in a governmental agency, business firm, civic or educational institution, directing or assisting in the direction of one or more major areas of administration (such as budget, personnel, purchasing) in a large organization or organizational segment, or conducting related complex management studies and analyses, or performing an appropriate combination of these duties, 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive, consultative, or supervisory capacity; or
A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience. However, all
candidates must possess the 18 months experience in an administrative, managerial, executive, consultative, or supervisory capacity as described in “1” above.
- Extensive experience in law enforcement, criminal justice, or related investigative fields, with demonstrated leadership in managing complex investigations and personnel. - Strong knowledge of investigative procedures, disciplinary protocols, undercover operations, and applicable laws and regulations. - Proven ability to supervise multidisciplinary teams, including Investigators and support staff. - Excellent analytical, communication, and decision-making skills, with the ability to advise executive leadership on sensitive and high-impact matters.
