About the Civic Engagement Commission:
In November 2018, New York City voters approved three ballot initiatives establishing the New York City Civic Engagement Commission. The Commission is focused on promoting civic engagement across all of City government and making New York City decision making accessible to all New Yorkers. Specifically, the Charter mandates the Commission with running a citywide participatory budgeting program, providing poll site interpretation services, providing technical assistance to community boards, partnering with community-based organizations and civic leaders to increase awareness of City services, and assisting City agencies in developing civic engagement initiatives.
Reporting to the Communications Director, the Communications Intern will:
- Lead in managing the content calendar for social media channels, including to draft, curate and edit content and ensure consistent voice.
- Under direction from the Communications Director, develop digital assets that are visually appealing and informative, effectively supporting program-specific and overarching agency communications goals; attend events to capture photography and/or video for use in digital assets.
- Serve as point of contact for nyc.gov/cec site update needs and integration with affiliate site Participate.nyc.gov; periodically carry out audits of website content and flag update needs for agency program leads and Communications Director.
- Assist in the development of communications materials, including press releases, newsletters, web copy, social media posts, blog posts, and talking points, ensuring standards and consistency across all deliverables and channels.
- Lead in the development of the CEC’s monthly newsletter.

- 15-20 Hours per week
HOURS/SHIFT
Hours to be determined. Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time (17 ½ hours) in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.

The preferred candidate should possess the following: - Student pursuing an Undergraduate or Graduate degree Studying Graphic Design or a relevant discipline - Must be proficient in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and/or other common design and video editing applications - Interest in digital media, creative content, government and civics, community organizing, and more.
