The City of New York’s Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (OATH) is a fast-paced tribunal that conducts administrative hearings for a wide range of City agencies, boards and commissions. OATH’s Clerk’s Office is seeking a CA III to serve as an Information Representative/Backup Cashier in Manhattan. This person will interact with members of the community who find themselves at OATH and need information as to how to proceed with the summonses they have received. As Backup Cashier, this person will process and collect fines and fees as well. Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Providing case information as well as other information and assistance to all members of the community appearing at OATH, as needed, on a case-by-case basis.
- Addressing, investigating, and attempting to resolve complaints from respondents who have appeared and will appear before OATH, and creating solutions to prevent similar problems in the future.
- Answering questions from the general public regarding account status, forms of payment, update summonses and fees within an automated system.
- Recording and reconciling daily lockbox receipts.
Special Note: Only candidates currently serving in a NYC agency as a permanent Clerical Associate or who are currently reachable on the NYC civil service list are eligible to apply.
Qualification Requirements
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of satisfactory clerical experience.
Skills Requirement
Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access and PowerPoint. Office experience as well as demonstrable background dealing with members of the public. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of the City's Financial Management System (FMS) is preferred. History of volunteerism, such as service in the AmericCorps or Peace Corps, is viewed favorably.
