The Department of Design and Construction seeks to hire a Business Development Advocacy Administrator to work within its Business and Workforce Development Unit. Reporting to the Chief Business & Workforce Development Officer, the selected candidate will help to develop and implement financial capacity building and business development strategies to facilitate the financial growth of Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises (M/WBEs) and small businesses in the Mentoring Program.

The Business Development Advocacy Administrator will also work with ODIR Outreach Coordinator to identify other City agencies and organizations (community boards, unions, apprentice programs, trade associations, etc.) that should be targeted for recruitment with a focus on developing strategic partnerships. The select candidate will research and maintain a list of internal and external resources for M/WBEs and small businesses, monitor and research emerging best practices as it relates to mentorship programs, small businesses, M/WBEs, and public contracting policy and procedures at least once quarterly, and provide recommendations on how DDC could operationalize the emerging best practices.
–––Other key responsibilities include working with community and trade organizations to increase interest in the DDC Mentoring Program and working with the Office of Technology and Innovation to develop the Mentoring Access Portal (MAP), the program’s platform.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

Candidates should have knowledge of New York City Local Law 1 and Rules of the Procurement Policy Board. Candidate should be familiar with Section 3 and Local Hiring. Candidate should possess strong analytic and computer skills, including proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel and Access queries and reports. The candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills a strong client service ethic keen interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders at various organizational levels.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
