Major Responsibilities
- Under general direction, with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, coordinate multiple aspects of special event planning for the Bronx Recreation’s Permit Office.
- Assist the Recreation Borough Chief’s office with the coordination of special events held in Bronx parks; review proposals, conduct site visits, assess site fees and manage events on site.
- Coordinate the creation, development and production of Parks-produced events. May supervise subordinate personnel or act as a team leader.
- Review and process special event permit requests; provide follow-up as needed.
- Work closely with the Bronx Borough Commissioner’s Office, Parks’ Operations, Citywide Special Event, Enforcement, Revenue and Legal divisions to ensure events are managed properly.
- Prepare reports, maintain records and documents pertaining to special events.
- Conduct frequent site visits and enforce Parks & Recreation rules and regulations to audit permit holders.
- Maintain yearly event statistical information and event filing system.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with staff and the public. Ensure that all requests and concerns are resolved.
- Assist with other tasks as directed by the Chief of Recreation.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

1. Bachelor’s degree. 2. Excellent writing, communication and organizational skills. 3. Familiarity with NYC Parks permit process or interest in event planning. 4. Ability to work independently and initiate projects. 5. Proficiency in computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access. 6. Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed. 7. Valid New York State driver license.

Residency Requirement

Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
