In order to be considered for this position candidate must be serving permanently in the title of Administrative Inspector (Electrical) or, be reachable on the Open Competitive List for Administrative Inspector (Electrical) for Exam #2071, or be eligible under the 55a program.
The Electrical Inspections Unit seeks to hire an Administrative Inspector (Electrical) N/M. The successful candidate will supervise a borough team consisting of electrical inspectors on a wide electrical inspection program for all illuminated traffic control and street lighting devices under the jurisdiction of NYCDOT. Conduct surveys of hundreds of intersections and thousands of street lights. Coordinate with Con Edison to verify street hardware, Edison service points, phasing, timing, and proposed installations. The successful candidate will monitor the Traffic Signal and Street Light systems installed in the city. Monitor the use of city equipment and inventory of contractors, and ensure approved materials are used on projects. Review contractor progress reports and inspector field reports, evaluate street conditions, and establish priorities for inspectors to go out and complete work according to department specifications. Assist in preparing change orders detailing modifications and/or substantial changes to existing contracts and projects. Coordinate and inspect the attachments of authorized users’ equipment on the authority of NYCDOT. Sign off on all payments upon certifying the completion and acceptance of work performed. The successful candidate will coordinate with DOT Central as necessary; and direct the inspections and investigation of civilians, commissioners, elected officials, and other sources of complaints. Prepare correspondence for the signature of superiors. Assign staff to inspect the installation of holiday and festival lighting attached to city equipment. Schedule and facilitate periodic meetings with contractors. Perform other related tasks as assigned.
This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program agreed to between the City and DC37.

Preference will be given to candidate who has:
- Excellent verbal skills, strong writing skills, good organizational skills, and good oral communication skills.
- Should have strong computer knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of electrical installations on all illuminated traffic control and street lighting devices.
- Organized, ability to think logically and able to manage multiple projects at once.
1. Seven years of full-time satisfactory experience as an electrician, designer, or inspector of electrical installations for light, heat and/or power distribution, traffic signals, fire alarm detection or communication systems, at least eighteen months of which must have been in a managerial, administrative or supervisory capacity; or
2. Five years of experience as described in “1” above, at least 18 months of which must have been in a managerial, administrative or supervisory capacity and one of the following: (a) 60 credits towards a degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology from an accredited college or university; or (b) Two years of full-time training in an acceptable electrical program in an accredited technical school; or
3. Completion of an apprentice program, at least three years in length, in the electrical trade or electrical inspection, and either: (a) four years of experience as described in “1” above, or (b) two years of experience as described in “1” above plus either 60 credits or two years of education as described in ”2” above.
4. A license as a professional engineer or registered architect issued pursuant to the New York State Education Law, and at least two years of experience as described in “1” above, at least 18 months of which must have been in a managerial, administrative or supervisory capacity; or
5.Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1,” “2,” or “3” above. All candidates must have at least two years of experience as described in “1” above, at least 18 months of which must have been in a managerial, administrative or supervisory capacity.
