JOB DESCRIPTION:

The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The NYPD Traffic Enforcement District Administration is a specialized unit within the New York City Police Department's Bureau of Transportation. It plays a crucial role in maintaining traffic flow, enforcing parking regulations, and ensuring road safety throughout the five boroughs. TEDA supports the smooth operation within traffic commands. These duties typically include managing schedules, handling communications, maintaining records, and providing general administrative support to staff and management.

The NYPD is seeking a qualified Bookkeeper Level 2 to support the administrative operations of the Traffic Enforcement District Administration. Their duties handle a range of financial and administrative tasks related to payroll and other financial matters. Bookkeepers may be Involved in tasks such as calculating differential pay for, processing repayments, and handling leave conversions. A key responsibility is processing payroll for personnel. In addition to payroll, bookkeepers may perform various administrative and accounting duties, such as data entry,
research, and correspondence.

Minimum Qualifications

(1) Completion of 30 semester credits from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), including 6 credits in accounting; or
(2) A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization, and two years of satisfactory full-time bookkeeping experience; or
(3) A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. College education may be substituted for experience in "2" above on the basis that 15 semester credits from an accredited college may be substituted for each year of required experience. However, all candidates must have a high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and either 6 semester credits in accounting from an accredited college or 6 months of experience as described in "2" above.
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III individuals must have, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, at least one year of experience as a Bookkeeper (40526) or at least four years of satisfactory full-time bookkeeping experience.


Preferred Skills

Skill sets and abilities necessary for this position would be: - Knowledgeable in Excel and its coding - The balancing of our revolving checking account, proficiency in QuickBooks, and ability to take on and assist other fiscal unit members with general fiscal responsibilities - Exceptional organizational and analytical skills - Superior oral and written communication and negotiation skills - Strong desktop computer application knowledge and skills (MS Outlook, MS Work, Excel) and - Ability to manage a wide range of projects, simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
